Lammas
1st August, Celebration of Bread.
We begin to acknowledge the sacrifices we must make to move forward. The land may be filled with abundance of life, colours and fruitfulness. But if we do not harvest it will all go to ruin and waste. We want to savour the abundance, but we must make sacrifices in order to survive and sometime to heal.
The Goddess, like the earth, is heavily pregnant with the fruits of Summer. She carries their means of survival, the promise of the continued turning of the wheel.
By comparison the God must make his own sacrifice to the earth. His life blood is absorbed by the earth, like the scattering of seeds, offering life to the soil so they may return. Resurrected.
